The After Party
Christmas came and went last weekend, though most people have yet to take down their decorations. Fair enough since they probably enjoy the holiday cheer like me. Even though we’re done with Christmas, the party is far from over. Where we had a look back at everything we’re thankfully for on Thanksgiving, to the cheer we gave to friends and family on Christmas, it is soon time to look to the future on New Years’ Eve this Saturday.
If you’re like some of my peers, you may have the urge to go all out on your New Year’s resolution. Be it buying a year long gym membership or committing to a hardcore diet. Though if you have tried something like this before and failed time after time, I have a hopeful bit of advice for you. Aim smaller.
This might seem counter intuitive, in fact normally it would be. But everybody is different. If someone who can put their mind on a goal and stick to it for years seems foreign to you, perhaps that kind of thinking isn’t meant for you. Let’s say your goal is to have a healthier diet. If you simply get rid of all the snacks, desserts, sauces and shrink your portions you can effectively lose weight in no time at all. That’s how it would work on paper, but that’s almost never the case, is it? Instead, try to only change one thing about your meals. Try eating some fruit when you would normally be eating chips. Or using mustard where you would normally have ketchup. Then, when you feel you’ve adjusted to it, change something else. little by little, bit by bit, you can easily whittle away at even the biggest of problems. Remember, the answer to how you eat an elephant is always one bite at time.
Thanks for reading and I hope you learned something from my own lesson in life.
