Comes With The Territory
Taking a journey during can be brutal, the distance might not even matter in some places (Save for Richmond where it seems to snow for no more than two weeks in a year.) On the other hand, you might be walking down the street bundled up in your warmest clothing from head to toe and come across someone who’s wearing little more than shorts and a T-shirt. If you decide to ask that person how they walk around dressed like that, I bet their answer would sound something close to “I’m used to it“.
When you are doing anything often enough, you start to find ways to save time, effort and end up doing whatever it is you do better. For this example, imagine that guy you saw probably spent more time walking around than he does sitting in his house next to a heater. The human body is amazing in that we can adapt to nearly anything if we are exposed to it constantly enough, and with that fact alone it is likely that he acclimatized to the cold that you are attempting to shield yourself from. This applies to basically everything in life, from the weather to the food you eat, which is why even a diet can take a long time to get used to without having an incessant urge to go back to what made you comfortable.
With this in mind, next time you feel like going back to that familiar warm blanket, ask yourself if you are truly tired, or just looking for a way out. Forcing yourself into uncomfortable situations will help you more than harm you in the long run, as long as “uncomfortable“ doesn’t mean sticking your head in the maw of an alligator.
Thanks for reading and I hope you learned something from my own lesson in life.
