A Gap In Time

Completing a task big or small can be draining if you aren’t very good at it. After pushing yourself through what started as a simple chore can be exhausting all the same if it ballooned into a feature length film’s worth of screen time. If you’ve been through these kinds of situations and decided to take a rest right after, I have some good news for you, you were right!

While this does sound obvious, there is more you can glean from this when you sit down and think about it. Humour me a moment. Think about exercise in it’s simplest form, running, lifting weights and all that jazz. Some people might be able to exercise for an entire day with little to no rest, but by then they would have ruined their body and gained zero benefit from all that effort. It’s in our nature to trade effort with rest back and forth like waves on a beach, so taking some time in the day for training is advisable instead of an entire day. No surprise there.

Now, consider the people who exercise one area of their body per day, as in arms one day, legs the next etc. Those people can not only put more effort into their workout since they can rely on parts of their body they didn’t exhaust as they go about their day, they might even forego the need for “rest days“ entirely should they go about it right. This can apply to your mind in as well. One moment you can be fixing your car which requires focus more than anything else. When your mind feels fried, you can take some time to do chores around the house, as tossing clothes into a washing machine requires little more than robotic movements. After that, dedicating some time to writing your book or finishing a painting can offer the creative part of your mind to flex its muscles. Planning your days around your own capabilities and needs can offer better results than simply trudging through every barrier you come across, try switching tasks when you feel your effort wanning next time you remember to.

Thanks for reading and I hope you learned something from my own lesson in life.
